16:35:12 - holds packet of potato chips with left hand, eats with right. atop a flight of stairs.

16:35:20 - phone [in left pocket] vibrates

16:35:35 - tries to take out phone with left hand. unaware that taking it out with left hand would have been a better idea. and that right hand is oily and dirty.

16:35:38 - succeeds in taking out phone

16:35:39 - phone slips out of greasy hand. phone flies forward.

16:35:41 - phone finally lands, on stairs. first impact made.

16:35:43 - continues to tumble down stairs.

16:35:49 - still stumbling. owner rushes down. trying to keep up with phone.

16:35:51 - after six failed attempts, phone finally lands safely and peacefully [the irony] on staircase landing.

16:35:52 - owner checks phone. phone appears to be in one piece. "Insert SIM card" appears on screen, against blank wallpaper. owner whacks phone. [cos apparently thats the first thing you should do when your sim card's out of place cos your phone suffered a major fall] and switches it off.

16:35:55 - whacking continues. owner switches on phone. Message gone, wallpaper back to normal. MAJOR RELIEF for owner.

moral of the story:

  • the Nokia 6100 is the best phone to get if you're the type who enjoys throwing your phone down a flight of stairs.
  • basic first aid: whack after major fall.
